EXERCISE DEPRIVATION INCREASES -VE MOOD IN EXERCISE ADDICTED SUBJECTS & MODIFIES THEIR BIOCHEMICAL MARKERS – 2016
DESIGN
– 18 male runners
a) control group (n=10) composed of runners without exercise addiction symptoms
b) an exercise addiction group (n=8) composed of runners with exercise addiction symptoms

– They did an exercise withdrawal period that was sustained for 2 wks.
RESULTS
(1) The exercise addiction group showed an increase in:
– depression, confusion, anger, fatigue and decreased vigor mood that improved post-exercise

(2) The exercise addiction group showed a decrease in oxygen consumption and respiratory exchange ratio
(3) exercise addiction showed low levels of anandamide
NOTE: Anandamide is a neurotransmitter produced in the brain that binds to the THC receptors. It’s been called the “bliss molecule,”  a substance produced in the body that binds to cannabinoid receptors – SOURCE


HIPPOCAMPAL AND CEREBRAL BLOOD FLOW AFTER EXERCISE CESSATION IN MASTER ATHLETES – 2016


METHOD
– Endurance exercise training improves cerebrovascular health and has neurotrophic effects within the hippocampus
– 12 master athletes (age ≥ 50 years) with long-term endurance training histories (≥15 years)
– cease all training and vigorous physical activity for 10 consecutive days
RESULTS
– Resting CBF significantly decreased in eight gray matter brain regions
