GLUTEUS MAXIMUS
– Straight Leg Hip Extension with Hip @ 0°, 30°, 60°, 90°

Influence of Joint Position on EMG and Torque During MVIC of Hamstrings and GMax – Worrell – 2001
· PDF File .
Procedure
– 50 subjects; prone on testing table
– MVIC hip extension at 4 hip angles tested separate from hamstrings
Results – Gluteus Maximus
Net Hip Joint Moment: 90° = 100Nm | 60° = 71Nm | 30° = 58Nm | 0° = 36Nm
EMG MVIC – Gluteus Maximus
: 0° = 94% | 30° = 84% | 60º = 80% | 90° = 64%

EMG STUDIES

GLUTEUS MAXIMUS, AD-DUCTOR MAGNUS, LATERAL & MEDIAL HAMSTRINGS
– Straight Leg Hip Extension with Hip Angle @45º with Leg in Neutral, Ab-ducted or Ad-ducted

Comparison of hip extensor muscle activity including the adductor magnus during three prone hip extension exercises – 2019 – Ko
Procedure
– 22 healthy participants; EMG for the Amag, Gmax, and medial and lateral hamstrings during:
1. hip extension @45º of hip flexion, 0º of knee flexion (PHE)
2. PHE with hip abduction (PHE-ABD)
3. PHE with hip adduction (PHE-ADD)
Results
Prone Hip Extension: adductor magnus 58 . gluteus maximus 56 . medial hamstrings 54 . lateral hamstrings 45
Prone Hip Extension with Hip Ab·duction: gluteus maximus 86 . adductor magnus 60 . medial hamstrings 60 . lateral hamstrings 44
Prone Hip Extension with Hip Ad·duction: adductor magnus 90 . medial hamstrings 45 . lateral hamstrings 45 . gluteus maximus 40

GLUTEUS MAXIMUS
– Straight Leg with Knee Flexion @ 0º, 30°, 60°, 90°, 110°

How different knee flexion angles influence the hip extensor in the prone position – 2013 – Kwon
Procedure
– examined the effects of knee flexion angle on hip extensor muscle activity.
– MVIC: knee flexion angles of 0°, 30°, 60°, 90° and 110° in prone position
– performed maximal voluntary contraction in hip extension
Results – Prone Hip Extension and Knee Flexion Angle
Glute Maximus: 90 > 110 > 60 > 30 > 0
+ Biceps Femoris: 0 > 30 > 60 > 90 > 110
+ Semitendinosus: 0 > 30 > 60 > 90 > 110
