BASICS
- BODY or SKI POSITION .
– Your Foundation: Ankle, Knee, Hip & Upper Body position - SEPARATION of UPPER & LOWER BODY .
(1) All the work is done by the legs which puts the shoulders down the hill
(2) Rotation is in the Hip Socket NOT the Hips and NOT the Shoulders - INTERNAL & EXTERNAL FEARS .

INTERMEDIATE – ADVANCED
- SHORT TURN DRILLS .
(1) Separation
(2) Early Edging
(3) More Grip through knees & ankles - CARVING TIPS FOR BEGINNER & INTERMEDIATE .
– Carving vs. Skidding – Stomp It
(1) Traverse the Hill setting an edge
(2) J-Turn.
(3) Roll the knees, ankles, feet – Railroad Drill
(4) Inclination Critical Edge Angle
(5) Inclination + Angulation - CARVING TURNS .
(1) Start Easy
(2) Stay Forward in Transition
(3) Open up your Stance – Shoulder to Hip Width - BALANCE FORE & AFT – STEEPER SLOPES & SHORT TURNS .
– Shifting the pressure on the soles of your feet
Drills (1) Pushing & Pulling (2) Posture Adjustment - INSIDE LEG & KNEE .
– Putting the Inside Ski on Edge - FLOW & SMOOTH TURNS .
(1) Turn Shape – “S” Turns NOT “Z” Turns
(2) Inside Knee Up – Like riding a bicycle - INCREASING EDGE ANGLE on an ADVANCED SKIER .
(1) Gradually increase pressure but DON’T push out on the outside leg
(2) Allow gravity to drop your pelvis vertically to achieve higher edge angle on the outside leg - TOPPLING for BIG EDGE ANGLES .
- TURNING ON ICE .
– Shoulder Width Stance
(1) Initiation – Early Edge Engagement – new outside ski on edge as soon as possible
(2) Patience – Apply pressure smoothly
(3) Separation to avoid Rotation – squeeze side of upper body until the end of the turn and then release
(4) More Flow – Less Force
